Sexual harassment is a violation of a woman’s fundamental rights including her right to equality under the Indian Constitution, her right to life, her right to live with dignity, and her freedom to engage in any profession, trade, or business, all of which include the right to a safe environment free from sexual harassment.

 

It includes any unwelcome acts or behavior (whether directly or by implication) such as physical contact or advances, demand or request for sexual favors, making sexually colored remarks, showing pornography or any other unwelcome physical, verbal or non-verbal conduct of a sexual nature.

 

The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, is India’s first legislation specifically raising the issue of sexual harassment at a workplace.

 

ABVIMS & Dr. RML Hospital are committed to a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment.

 

Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) or sexual harassment committee, consisting of senior faculty, nursing staff, and a women social worker, addresses any reported incidents. Complaints can be submitted to the Director’s office, the Chairman of the ICC or any ICC member. The ICC also organizes regular sessions to raise awareness about gender discrimination and to encourage staff, especially women, to report any instances of harassment.
