The undergraduate medical education program (MBBS) is designed with a goal to create an "lndian Medical Graduate" (IMG) possessing requisite knowledge, skills, attitudes, values and responsiveness, so that she or he may function appropriately and effectively as a physician of first contact of the community while being globally relevant.
The duration of the MBBS course is 4 years and 6 months followed by ONE year of Compulsory Rotatory Internship for the award of the MBBS Degree. At the start of the academic session, there will be a foundation course of 1 week.

University Examination is conducted at the end of every Phase. Internal assessment, both formative and summative, is conducted regularly throughout every phase.
The maximum permissible duration of the course excluding the internship period is 9 years. Maximum permissible duration for each phase is 4 years and maximum 4 number of attempts per subject are permissible.
In addition, there will be a longitudinal program “Professional Development including Attitude, Ethics and Communication Module (AETCOM)” spread across the continuum of the MBBS including internship.
The rules and regulations of the National Medical Commission (NMC) are followed by ABVIMS for the purpose of teaching, training, attendance and assessment of MBBS students.
Eligibility Criteria for appearing in MBBS Annual Examination:
Eligibility criteria for internal assessment to appear in the annual examination is 40% marks in aggregate in theory and 60% marks in practical or 60:40 in theory: practical.
It is mandatory to have 75% attendance in theory and 80% attendance in practical in each subject.
It is essential to have 75% attendance in AETCOM separately in each phase.
It is essential to have 75% attendance in the Electives to appear in Phase III (Part II) annual examination.
Monthly attendance is displayed on notice boards, Institute’s website (www.rmlh.nic.in) and is mailed to parents monthly.
There is no provision for separate Medical Leaves, Casual Leaves, Earned Leaves or leaves of any other kind for the MBBS students.
Electives
Electives are offered to MBBS Students as per the NMC Guidelines. An Elective is specialized training in the Departments of the Hospital. Students are offered nearly 50 Electives to choose from. They are expected to choose a 2 weeks Elective in Phase I/II Departments and another 2 weeks Elective in Phase III (Part I)/Phase (III(Part II)/ Superspeciality Departments. Electives are conducted after Phase III (Part I).
Research opportunities for undergraduate students
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) offers Short Term Studentship (STS). Students can take up a research project under the guidance of a supervisor from the Institute.
